Amanda Herold is Montgomery Village Community Band's current director. She serves as the Director of Instrumental Music at John F. Kennedy High School in Silver Spring, MD. In this role, she oversees courses in Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Piano, and IB Advanced Music. She also directs the school’s Marching Cavaliers Band; Drumline, Jazz Ensemble, and Chamber Ensemble. Amanda recently completed the National Board Certification process in instrumental music and is awaiting results this December. She is a graduate of the Sunderman Conservatory at Gettysburg College and was nationally recognized as one of five recipients of the 2022 NAfME Collegiate Professional Achievement Award.
Amanda is an active conductor and clinician, having presented sessions on recruitment, advocacy, and program development at both the Pennsylvania and Maryland Music Educators Association state conferences. She has participated in conducting symposiums at the University of Maryland, Temple University, West Chester University, Shenandoah Conservatory, and George Mason University. She performs with the Maryland Band Directors Band in the flute and percussion sections and is passionate about building welcoming, collaborative musical communities.
Amanda brings a warm, joyful, and thoughtful approach to music-making, whether working with students or fellow musicians.
