Montgomery Village Community Band
Music Director Position Available (Open Until Filled)

Job Announcement: The Montgomery Village Community Band (MVCB), a welcoming 60-person, all-volunteer ensemble founded in 1979 and located in Montgomery County, Maryland, is eagerly seeking a Music Director. The selected applicant will become an employee of the Montgomery Village Foundation. Compensation (stipend) is negotiable within a set range depending on qualifications. The final slate of candidates will have a live audition in front of the band.

Band: Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:30 pm at Stedwick Community Center, between Labor Day and July 4.
Concert venues are mostly local and include: the Lake Marion Community Center, Watkins Mill High School, and the Montgomery Village Lawn Theater. We have many themed concerts throughout the year including Halloween (with band members in costumes), Toys for Tots, Winter, Spring, Summer, and July 4. In addition, we participate in Maryland Community Band Day. 

Principal Duties: Provides general leadership to the Band, plans and prepares musical programs, acts as principal conductor at rehearsals and concerts, manages the acquisition of new music, determines instrumentation and seating, schedules concerts with the concurrence of the Steering Committee, and represents the Band to the public.

Qualifications: Substantial concert band and/or orchestra conducting/leadership experience. Desirable attributes include community band conducting, college level music education (conducting, theory, composition, etc.), proficiency with band instruments, and public speaking in front of audiences.
